FORT CAVAZOS, TX -- U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division band hosted a Christmas Cavalry carol-themed holiday concert at Palmer Theater at Fort Cavazos, Texas, Dec. 12, 2024.
The event provided an opportunity for families divided by overseas assignments to unite and enjoy a shared sense of community and happiness during the holiday season.
"The concert is designed to foster interaction and bring a sense of belonging to military families. The Cavalry Carols are for families to feel a sense of belonging and interaction," said U.S. Army 1st LT Benjamin Alaniz, 1CD band commander. "We want people to come as they are. We want people to cheer and clap whenever they want. That’s the whole point of this season."
The event reflected the band's mission to create a festive and welcoming atmosphere, where audience members were encouraged to actively participate and enjoy the music in an environment that nurtures camaraderie and holiday cheer.
The event was an hour long, but preparing for the families took up to a month of practice.
"The band is always busy because everyone wants music. The challenge is making sure the band can put on a show in the Palmer Theater where many people can come at once to enjoy it. We want to make sure that it is high-quality and aligns with the vision of our leaders," said Alaniz.
Guests were encouraged to take photos and join in the dancing. The singers engaged with the audience to foster a sense of connection.
"The Cavalry Carols provides an opportunity for the local community and those on base to come together and share a moment. Music creates a space where we can sit down and enjoy a sense of community," said Alaniz. “This atmosphere is a place where you can be yourself.”
