When someone challenges themselves, they discover more about who they are and what they
are capable of. Challenges expand horizons and broaden perspectives, as well as develop us
physically and mentally.
Noah Young, a native of Navarre, FL, has always been one to seek challenges and overcome
them. As a former National Collegiate Athlete Association, Division One football player who
received the “Dawg Patch” from Coach Deion “Primetime” Sanders, Young has experienced a
level of challenge, determination, and discipline that very few individuals have. He now seeks an
even greater challenge: becoming a United States Marine Corps Officer.
“Football is still just a game; this is real life. This is higher stakes now… I took football as far
as I could, and I knew this would be my next route,” said Young.
Commissioning in the Marine Corps requires a physical, mental, and moral aptitude. Officer
candidates are evaluated for an array of qualities such as athleticism, leadership, and mental
strength, qualities that Noah Young has become familiar with throughout his collegiate football
career. The route to becoming an Officer in the Marine Corps will demand a higher obedience to
these standards; a challenge that Young is prepared to attack and overcome.
“Challenging yo urself is very important because it helps yo u find out who yo u are… it always
seems to be a good feeling of reward and accomplishment. It is something that some people don’t have the chance to do, so it is very special,” said Young.
Young’s football career is a testament to his ability to hurdle his obstacles and succeed. He played football at
five colleges, most notably, at the University of Colorado where he was coached by pro football hall of famer, Deion Sanders. Coach Sanders spoke highly of Young during a phone conversation with Capt. Bobby J. Robinson, the Officer Selection Officer for Marine Corps Officer Selection Team Tuscaloosa.
“This is one of the most hard working, disciplined young men you can ever have. He is awesome”,
said Sanders.
A football captain is responsible for leading teammates on and off the field. They are selected for their exceptional leadership qualities, ability to make rapid and effective judgments, and for their commitment to the team. Similarly, these qualities will be the pinnacle of Young’s responsibility as a Marine Corps Officer. Selection Officer, Capt. Robinson, has been preparing Young physically and mentally so that he will be able successfully step into this role.
“We treat Noah Young just as any individual, we prepare his mind, body , and soul. We emphasize
the importance of leading Marines, moral character, and being a warfighter who is professional
and physically fit,” said Capt. Robinson.
The most important role in our Corps is leading Marines, a responsibility that Young will be required to uphold and embody on a direct and personal level. He will be responsible for the physical, mental, and moral welfare of those in his charge. Young’s innate ability to overcome challenges, his collegiate level athleticism, and leadership experience makes him an ideal candidate to become a Unites States Marine Corps Officer.
