    Joint Task Force-National Capital Region

WASHINGTON- U.S. Air Force District of Washington leaders convened at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling for a Rehearsal of Concept drill in preparation for the 60th Presidential Inauguration, Dec. 20, 2024.

The ROC drill focused on ensuring the Air Force’s readiness to support the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR). Approximately 5,000 service members will be present at the 60th Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025, in one of the nation's most important events. Service members will be part of a military tradition, dating back to the first inauguration, commemorating the peaceful transition of power.

“The inauguration is an incredibly important event, not only for our nation, but frankly for the entire world,” said Maj. Gen. Daniel A. Devoe, Air Force District of Washington commander. “The Department of Defense and the United States’ Airmen that participate in it are on show and display for the world, so it's incredibly important for us to practice and make sure that we have everything right for such a critical moment.”

While the ROC drill allows senior leaders to plan for the inauguration, it is only one part of the broader preparation efforts across the force. Leaders at every level are responsible for coordinating with their Airmen to ensure that the inauguration day celebrations proceed smoothly without any issues.

“As a planner for AFDW, I have the unique opportunity to see everything behind the scenes,” said Senior Master Sgt. Josh Cullum, AFDW lead ceremonial planner. “That includes all of the preparations for uniform inspections which make these Airmen look sharp on inauguration day. I see all of the work that goes into the transportation logistics plans. I see all of the plans that go into the feeding of our members before they go downtown and also, all of the security and credentialing efforts to make sure they can be at the right place at the right time.”

As the countdown to the inauguration continues, the Air Force's meticulous planning and coordination efforts are essential to ensuring a safe, seamless and successful event. With each detail carefully considered, Airmen across all ranks remain committed to supporting this historic occasion, demonstrating their dedication and professionalism in service to the nation.
