    U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden

The United States Army Garrison Wiesbaden Department of Emergency Services Fire Department continues to excel in providing premier emergency response services, ensuring the safety and security of the Wiesbaden military community. Their dedication and hard work have been recognized again, adding to their well-deserved accolades, as Installation Management Command-Europe's top small fire department for the 2024 calendar year. This is the second year in a row that the organization has received this honor.

"On behalf of the entire community, I extend my gratitude to the USAG Wiesbaden Department of Emergency Services Fire Department," said USAG Wiesbaden Garrison Commander, Colonel Troy G. Danderson. "Thanks to you, our installation feels safe and secure every day. It’s not surprising to me that you’ve been named IMCOM-Europe's best small fire department for the second year straight. Thank you for always going above and beyond, and for your support both on our installation, as well as in our surrounding host nation communities.”

The fire department received the award due to their superior service to the Army Fire and Emergency Services programs throughout 2024, accomplishing the mission of protecting the ones who defend America, wrote Sigurd Mack, Fire Protection Specialist, Emergency Services Branch, IMCOM-Europe G3- Protect, in a memo announcing the 2024 Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Awards - Europe Level Winners.

"The candidates have demonstrated resourcefulness and the ability to overcome challenges within each of their functional areas. Each candidate/department has contributed significantly to IMCOM-Europe's mission and had a positive impact on the communities they serve," Mack wrote.

In 2024, the USAG Wiesbaden firefighters responded to a total of 800 emergency calls, both on installation and in the surrounding community.

Some notable statics from 2024 include:
    • Nine fires, extinguished in the early stage, before spreading further
    • More than 100 medical emergencies, with two successful resuscitations
    • Two mutual aid assistance calls from the city of Wiesbaden

"Our team's unwavering commitment to excellence and relentless efforts in ensuring the safety and security of our community is truly commendable," said Wiesbaden’s Fire Chief, Daniel Corzelius. "Each firefighter, dispatcher, inspector, assistant chief and the deputy chief’s dedication, resilience, and teamwork have set a gold standard in service. I am immensely proud of each member of the USAG Wiesbaden Fire Department for their outstanding performance and continuous pursuit of excellence."

During 2024 the Department experienced several personnel changes, including welcoming six new hires and on-boarding a new Fire Inspector. It was a bittersweet year with the team promoting three individuals to lead firefighters, but also saying good-bye to two personnel who retired after more than 40 years of service.

The award will be presented by the head of IMCOM-Europe, Mr. Tommy Mize, during one of his Garrison tours.
