CAMP HANSEN, OKINAWA, JAPAN—U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Mackenzie K. Gage was promoted to the rank of Major during a ceremony with Marines from 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Jan. 15, 2025.
Gage was promoted to the rank of major by Lt. Col Samuel Heath, the III MIG operations officer, and was pinned by his wife and children.
“I chose him specifically because he’s provided me a lot of mentorship in the last couple of months,” stated Gage. “I’m super busy and he’s super busy and I really appreciate the time he’s taken to carve out for mentorship whether it’s about family life in the Marine Corps or staying competitive for promotion. I think that’s a really important thing we do here in the Marine Corps.”
Gage, who graduated from the University of Rochester in 2015, is currently serving as the executive officer for Influence Company, III MIG. His main area of focus is information operations on a cognitive aspect to include civil affairs and other non-kinetic effects and capabilities.
Gage’s duties in the Marine Corps led him to deploy in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served as a Marine Officer Instructor at the University of Florida Naval Reserve Officer Training program. Gage now serves in Okinawa, Japan, supporting missions across the USINDOPACOM.
As a highlight of his promotion, Gage reflected on the Marines in attendance, “I was blessed today to have people from across my career here. I was able to have my previous midshipman, now first lieutenant, here just because we both happened to be on Okinawa. It’s a small world and it’s awesome and great to see the impact as Marines continue to grow.”
Information Maneuver Company provides information operations planning and support, as well as a civil affairs capability to III MIG and the joint force.
