DOHA, Qatar — Exercise Eagle Resolve 2025, a combined joint all-domain exercise, officially kicked off in Qatar on Jan. 9, 2025. The exercise brings U.S., Qatari, and partner nations across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) together to enhance interoperability and readiness across land, air, sea, space, and cyberspace domains.
Eagle Resolve occurs every two years. It enhances the GCC and U.S. Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) capabilities of linking multiple agencies to build and grow a regional approach for Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) focused on protecting people and infrastructure. Qatar, as the host nation for this year's exercise, underscores its commitment to regional stability and its role as a critical partner in ensuring security in the Middle East.
Eagle Resolve was established in 1999 and has been a cornerstone of the U.S.’ commitment to build trust and cooperation with allied forces in the region. This year’s exercise focuses on responding to complex contingencies, fostering seamless communication, and integrating operations across multiple domains.
"Strengthening our military-to-military relationships is key to addressing regional challenges," said U.S. Army Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, commander of U.S. Central Command.
The Qatari Armed Forces will provide key facilities and personnel, playing a central role in executing the exercise. Members of the GCC will contribute a combination of land, maritime, and air assets along with trained personnel.
The exercise consists of three phases. Phase One is the Senior Leader Seminar, the opening event, where key leaders and decision-makers discuss regional security issues and the need for strengthened partnerships. Phase Two consists of simulated training for participants to respond to real-world regional threats. The final phase is the Field Training Exercise (FTX), which includes air and sea operations focusing on IAMD, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) defense scenarios, and countering unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Richard R. Dickens, the Joint Task Force deputy commander, emphasized the importance of regular in-person training for all partner nations. Improved capabilities and enhanced collective deterrence are hopefully the result, he added.
Exercise Eagle Resolve 2025 reinforces the U.S.’s unwavering commitment to the unity and interoperability of GCC partner nations, working together to address emerging security challenges in the area.
It’s a commitment that Gen. Kurilla has long emphasized. "Exercises like Eagle Resolve allow us to reinforce U.S. and Qatari cooperation while also bolstering the collective defense capabilities of Gulf Cooperation Council partners, contributing to a safer and more stable region."
The exercise will conclude Jan. 23.
