U.S. CENTRAL COMMAND AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY— U.S. and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) cyber professionals participated in hands-on cybersecurity training during Exercise Eagle Resolve 2025, a multilateral event hosted by the Qatari Armed Forces. Designed to enhance regional resilience and bolster collective defense, the exercise emphasized increased interoperability and collaboration among GCC partner nations. Participants from the U.S. and GCC nations—including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman—shared best practices and gained experience using advanced cybersecurity tools.

“This training introduced the MITRE ATT&CK framework and tools like Security Onion to enhance our collective ability to detect and address cyber incidents,” said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jonathan Miller, Cyber Protection Team 186 cyber analyst. “It’s about sharing knowledge and ensuring we all remain prepared to respond to evolving threats.”

The training not only reinforced existing knowledge but also highlighted areas for growth, providing a platform for participants to identify expertise gaps and develop targeted improvement strategies.

“One of the great benefits of going to any type of defensive cybersecurity training is realizing what you don’t know,” said Jacob Mullins, a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard specializing in Defense Cyberspace Operations. He added that motivating people to invest in the knowledge and assets required to be defensively capable in the cyber realm is of paramount importance.

Mullins shared his hope that participants new to cyber defense will reflect on the knowledge gained during the exercise, focus on their desired areas of improvement, and take lessons learned back to their units. The training environment also fostered mentorship and collaboration, with senior participants guiding newer members and exchanging knowledge across experience levels.

“We have some with over a decade of experience in cybersecurity and others for whom this is an introduction,” said Staff Sgt. Justin Bud, a cyber intelligence analyst with Cyber Protection Team 186. “This dynamic exchange improves everyone’s skills, helping us work better as a team.”

By simulating joint responses to cyber incidents, Eagle Resolve 2025 highlighted the importance of teamwork and coordination in addressing shared security challenges.

“The relationships we’re building here go beyond technical skills,” Bud said. “They create a foundation for continued partnership, which is essential for maintaining regional security and resilience.”

Eagle Resolve 2025’s cybersecurity training exemplifies the broader objectives of the exercise: fostering a unified approach to emerging threats and preventing future conflicts through readiness. By building mutual understanding and capabilities, the U.S. and its GCC allies strengthen their collective ability to address evolving challenges.
