Streaking through the air, a sleek marvel of engineering blends cutting-edge technology with artistry. Designed to dominate with unparalleled precision and power, every inch of its frame is a testament to the skill and dedication of the mechanics who ensure it performs flawlessly. But this description doesn’t just belong to an F-35. For Master Sgt. Chris Bohan, that same pursuit of perfection extends beyond his work on stealth jets: crafting flawless replicas of Fast and the Furious cars, blending Hollywood dreams with precision craftsmanship.
“The work I do on jets, like ensuring smooth finishes, precise coatings, and seamless repairs, isn’t much different from the bodywork and painting I do on cars,” Bohan explained.
Growing up in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, he spent hours restoring race cars, a passion that honed his mechanical skills and attention to detail. That connection led him to build replicas of iconic vehicles from the Fast and the Furious franchise, including the green Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Paul Walker and Jesse’s white Jetta. One of his creations even resides in a European museum, a testament to the global reach of his craft.
“Finding authentic parts is half the battle,” Bohan explained. “For one project, I tracked down a set of wheels that were one of only 500 ever made.”
Maintaining state-of-the-art jets like the F-35 and restoring Hollywood’s most iconic cars require an extraordinary blend of technical expertise, precision, and creative problem-solving. For Bohan, the connection between the two is seamless.
“Both demand attention to detail, whether it’s ensuring an F-35’s coatings meet stealth requirements or replicating the exact shade of green from a Fast and the Furious car,” he explained.
Reflecting on his journey, Bohan credits the Vermont Air National Guard with shaping not just his career but also his life.
