CAMP HANSEN, Okinawa, Japan - III Marine Expeditionary Force Support Battalion will participate in a Marine Corps Combat Readiness Evaluation in the Republic of Korea from February 11 to February 15. During the MCCRE, III MSB Marines will rehearse critical, mission essential skills like providing force protection, security, and combat service support. The evolution will also test their ability to operate in a chemically, biologically, or nuclear contaminated environment.
The III MSB Unit Level Training is aimed toward maintaining unit readiness while honing the skills of the individual Marine. The preparation for the MCCRE has involved extensive classes, rehearsals, and a joint training exercise with U.S. Army engineers from 11th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division.
“The MCCRE is a key opportunity to hone the warfighting skills of our Marines and sailors. Through this kind of unit level training, we ensure that the Marines of III MSB are continuously ready to support as well as fight alongside our allies,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kieran R. O’Neil, the commanding officer of III MSB.
Major Matthew H. Evers, the III MSB operations officer, added that “exercising the ability to shoot, move, communicate, and sustain from the individual to battalion level, including attachments, ensures that III MSB can provide the freedom of action for the III MEF Command Element and III MIG headquarters when needed.”
This training evolution will directly transition to larger-scale joint and combined training alongside their Republic of Korea counterparts later in the year. During these exercises, III MSB will continue to train while providing real world logistics, mobility, life support, and sustainment operations. These operations involve the supply of essential resources like food, water, fuel, medical care, and transportation, which are vital for maintaining the readiness and capability of forward deployed Marines. Approximately 2,000 U.S. Marines and sailors will rehearse and strengthen their combat maneuver capabilities and combined arms integration during this training continuum.
Together, logistical and life support operations enable seamless and realistic training, allowing forces to concentrate on their military objectives without being hindered by basic resource limitations. Combined, these training evolutions bolster their ability to execute and enable distributed operations in a challenging and demanding environment.
III MSB provides and coordinates direct combat service support, security, and administrative services to III MEF, 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, and III MEF Information Group Command Elements to enable III MEF to win in competition and conflict.
