CAMP H.M. SMITH – A bipartisan delegation of House Armed Services Military Legislative Assistants and Professional Staff Members visited U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, to discuss key military and defense policy issues in the Indo-Pacific region, Jan. 27, 2025.

The delegation – led by Amelia Litynski, Defense Policy Advisor to House Majority Whip Tom Emmer – engaged with senior MARFORPAC leadership and professional staff members and national defense staff from key congressional offices to address critical topics, including U.S. military force posture in the Indo-Pacific, contested logistics, military construction projects, and the evolving defense of Guam and the broader Pacific.

As part of their itinerary in Hawaii, the delegation also visited U.S. Pacific Fleet and U.S. Pacific Air Forces the following day for strategic briefings, ensuring they gain a comprehensive perspective on the operational environment. This firsthand assessment will be instrumental in shaping legislative initiatives and policy recommendations for the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, primarily in areas related to force posture, regional deterrence, and military infrastructure development.

In addition to Hawaii, the delegation was scheduled from January 26 to February 1 to travel to Guam, Saipan, and Tinian to develop situational awareness and facilitate timely military and foreign policy discussions leading up to the posture season.

As tensions in the Indo-Pacific continue to evolve, congressional engagements in defense policy remains vital. The insights gained from this delegation’s visit to key locations across the Pacific will play a pivotal role in shaping future military investments and strategic decisions, ensuring that the U.S. maintains a strong and forward-deployed presence in the region.
