ARNOLD AIR FORCE BASE, Tenn. – Emblazoned at the top of Arnold Engineering Development Complex 804th Test Support Squadron patch are four words – “Enable today. Deliver tomorrow.”
Dustin Boss expressed confidence that the team now under his direction will continue to accomplish the goal defined in the squadron motto.
“To the TSS team, it’s you guys that execute that,” Boss said. “It’s up to you every day that come into work, go through the grind, enable these facilities to run, to deliver the needs that the warfighter needs for tomorrow. So, without you guys doing what you do, TSS wouldn’t be what it is.”
Colleagues and members of his family watched on as Boss assumed charge of the AEDC 804 TSS during an Assumption of Leadership ceremony Dec. 2, 2024, at Arnold Air Force Base, headquarters of AEDC.
As 804 TSS director, Boss is tasked with managing a combined squadron of more than two dozen government and military personnel responsible for the maintenance and sustainment of over 20 test and fabrication facilities at AEDC with an annual budget of $65 million.
Previously designated the Test Systems Branch, the 804 TSS provides support to test squadrons and customers through a broad range of services. These include work performed in the AEDC Model and Machine Shop at Arnold AFB, instrumentation and diagnostics techniques, aerothermal test measurements, metallurgical evaluation, chemical analyses, and facility and testing technology support.
The 804 TSS is among the test squadrons and branches that comprise the AEDC 804th Test Group. Both the 804 TG and the 804 TSS were activated in May 2022. The 804 TG supports and executes ground and flight test activities through the development, sustainment and operation of more than 35 AEDC test facilities across locations in five states.
Boss brings to his new post nearly 20 years of test operations and sustainment experience.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Tennessee Technological University in 2004. Boss began his career at AEDC the following year as a test operations engineer with the base operating contractor. In this role, he was responsible for the test and operation of turbine engines in a flight-representative altitude environment.
In 2015, Boss joined U.S. Air Force Civil Service at AEDC and has since held the positions of aeropropulsion asset manager and lead space and missiles asset manager.
Prior to becoming director of the squadron, Boss served as the 804 TSS systems management flight chief.
Awards Boss has earned throughout his career include the AEDC Technical Achievement Award in 2013, the General Gossick Team Excellence Award in 2017, and he was named AEDC Scientist/Engineering Cilivian of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2016.
“I look forward to leaning on his leadership over the remainder of my tenure, and I look forward to hearing about great things from him and the TSS long after I depart from this command,” 804 TG Commander Col. Jason Vap, who presided over the Assumption of Leadership ceremony, said of Boss. “Team, the 804 TSS is in good hands with Dustin.”
