PATRICK SPACE FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The Patrick SFB Library recently observed the annual literacy week, "Building Literacy: Constructing the Foundation for Success," from Jan. 27-31. This event, which coincides with national literacy initiatives, such as National Literacy Month in September, as noted by the National Education Association, aimed to foster a love for learning and emphasize core values like innovation, resilience, and community.
The week-long celebration featured interactive activities, including an obstacle course, sensory bins, and a cardboard challenge, promoting critical thinking and teamwork. Base leadership also participated by reading to children and families, demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and leadership development.
“This year’s theme, ‘Building Literacy,’ is about laying the groundwork for success, a concept that aligns perfectly with the Guardian Spirit,” said Marta Demopoulos, Patrick SFB Library director. “By fostering literacy, we’re not just teaching reading skills; we’re nurturing the innovative and resilient mindset that defines a Guardian.”
Through these efforts, Patrick SFB reinforces its commitment to the Guardian Spirit, inspiring a culture of knowledge, readiness, and excellence.
The literacy week program highlights the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in space operations. By developing a strong foundation in literacy, the base cultivates the next generation of Guardians who will lead in space exploration and defense.
