RAF LAKENHEATH, England — The 48th Component Maintenance Squadron at RAF Lakenheath, England welcomed spouses for an inside look at the mission essential behind-the-scenes work during its Spouse Integration Day.
The 48th CMS plays a critical role in ensuring mission success by maintaining aircraft engines, avionics, and other essential components. Events like Spouse Integration Day provide a unique perspective for family members, fostering a deeper appreciation for the sacrifices and efforts of their loved ones.
Spouses were given an opportunity to explore the different sections of the squadron to gain insight into the technical expertise required to ensure the 48th Fighter Wing remains mission-ready.
"It's always amazing to have spouses see what we do on a day-to-day basis," said Tech. Sgt. Christopher Schram, 48th CMS consolidated tool kit specialist. "It makes it easier for them to support us when they get to see the work that we do."
The event provided first-hand experience for spouses, allowing them to witness the dedication and precision required in maintaining aircraft systems. Tiffany Schram, one of the participating spouses, shared her thoughts on the experience.
"Today was an amazing experience, I was able to take an inside look at the department and get a better understanding of what my husband does," she said.
For the Airmen, the event was an opportunity to bridge the gap between work and home life by demonstrating the complexity and importance of their roles.
"Today, these Airmen proved that while they don’t pilot the jets, they do ‘fly’ them,” said Stewart Samuels, 48th CMS honorary commander.
"Without the back shops, the rest of this mission would not happen."
As the squadron continues its mission, opportunities like this reinforce the strong bond between Airmen and their families, solidifying a more supportive and resilient military community.
