U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Zachary Spencer, from Douglasville, Ga., is assigned to the 725th Air Mobility Squadron (AMS) onboard Naval Station (NAVSTA) Rota.
“My primary duty is maintenance analyst,” said Spencer. “In short, this entails managing our maintenance system and extracting data from within. This data is then utilized to complete trend analysis and report on the performance of our aircraft and the maintenance unit, thus equipping the command team to make data driven decisions.”
Spencer didn’t enjoy the thought of graduating college with debt and no guaranteed job, so he decided to join the U.S. Air Force in 2016. Since then, he’s been stationed at 62nd Airlift Wing at Joint Base Lewis McChord in Tacoma, Wash. and the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing at Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates before arriving at the 725th AMS onboard NAVSTA Rota.
Spencer spends his workday as a data analyst, a mail orderly and a Commander’s Inspection Program team lead, but outside of work he enjoys watching American football and playing sports. He’s stated that he looks forward to the base sports as he often tries to put and Air Force team together.
“My favorite thing about being stationed in Spain was meeting my wife,” said Spencer. “We met in February 2022 and were married in March 2024.”
While he admits it’s been a few months since last taking a college course, Spencer intends on getting back on track and taking a couple more before he departs NAVSTA Rota later in 2025.
“I’m just a man who has both successes and failures, but with that I am who I am today and I have what I have thanks to my lord and savior Jesus Christ.”
