Story by Staff Sgt. Kasie Faddis

    117th Air Refueling Wing

This month's Excellent Airman is Tech. Sgt. Caleb Quinsey, a Client Systems Technician within the 117th Communications Squadron!
Quinsey enlisted in the Air National Guard in 2015 as soon as he graduated from high school. After enlisting he became a temporary technician for around six years, received a temporary Active-Guard Reserve position and more recently received a full-time technician position.
“I originally wanted to be a Marine, but my buddy in high school heard about the Air National Guard so he said we should join together,” said Quinsey. “I said alright let’s sign up. I signed up and he didn’t, but it is the best decision I ever made.”
He said his favorite thing about being at the 117th is the people he gets to work with, the positive work environment and a work schedule that is rare in the civilian world. His favorite memory and the coolest thing he has ever gotten to do is go on a couple of incentive flights where he was able to watch a B-52 Stratofortress, F-22 Raptors and F-16 Fighting Falcon get refueled. In his free time, he enjoys running, rucking and playing PlayStation.
“I am a big gamer and runner. I love running and am currently training for a marathon,” he said. “I also did a 12-mile ruck in Birmingham and I just like to stay active.”
He participated in the Alabama National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition this past December where he competed against members of the Alabama Army National Guard and Romanian Army.
“It was my first time competing and I want to do it again. I actually taught myself how to do land navigation on my kitchen counter and used the university of YouTube to help,” said Quinsey. “It was a lot of fun and now that I know what to expect I think I could do a lot better.”
During his time in the Guard, he earned a Community College of the Air Force degree in Information Technology, a bachelor’s in cyber security and might work on a Master’s degree.
“I actually didn’t want to go to college out of high school at all, but the military convinced me,”said Quinsey. “The Air Force is all about education, but working here with everyone made me realize the value of a college degree.”
