SAVANNAH, Ga. – The excitement of competition and rivalry filled the air as Soldiers from Fort Moore and Fort Stewart took to the ice for their hockey game February 15th, 2025 in Savannah, Georgia. The event, which aimed to boost morale and promote physical readiness, drew in Soldiers and their Families for a day of athleticism and team spirit.

The game, held at the Savannah Civic Center, brought together two Army posts with a shared goal: improving physical fitness and enhancing Soldier morale through sports. The match showcased the Fort Stewart and Fort Moore hockey teams in a high-energy game that represented the discipline, teamwork, and skill developed by Army personnel.

"The purpose of the event is to build camaraderie and to get more units to play and see who's the best in Georgia," said Staff Sergeant Devin Henry, team captain for the Fort Stewart Hockey Team. "It's about building strength, both mentally and physically; being able to come together outside of our regular duties and challenge each other in a fun, competitive environment."

The game featured fast-paced action on the ice, with both teams battling not just for victory but for the opportunity to engage in a shared experience that helps strengthen bonds within the Army community. Soldiers cheered each other on, while the crowd of friends and Families provided loud support from the stands.

The game also served as a reminder of the Army’s commitment to a balanced approach to readiness, where both physical fitness and emotional well-being are essential.

"It’s events like these that remind us of the importance of being well-rounded," said Staff Sergeant Devin Henry, a member of the Fort Stewart hockey team. "The mental toughness we develop on the ice translates to our daily duties, making us more effective and resilient soldiers."

Organizers noted the overwhelming success of the event, with many expressing interest in making the hockey game an annual tradition for Army personnel in the region. As the final buzzer sounded and the teams shook hands, the event highlighted the Army’s focus on ensuring soldiers remain physically prepared and mentally sharp, with events like the hockey game continuing to offer opportunities for growth, connection, and resilience.
