MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. - McConnell’s Military and Family Readiness Center will be hosting their annual Career and Education Fair in the Pulley Ballroom at the Dole Center March 7, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“The goal is to bring in employers and educational institutions for the McConnell population,” said Alex Rector, 22nd Force Support Squadron M&FRC community readiness consultant and transition assistance program manager. “That includes service members, spouses, veterans, civilian contractors, and anyone with base access. We want them to have the resources to get a job or look for further education opportunities.”
The fair is constructed and executed with a tag-team-style approach.
“The cool thing about this Career and Education Fair – pairing them together – is you have myself focused on employers, and then Jamie Baker over in the Education Center focused on the educators,” Rector said.
Records of the Career and Education Fair go as far back as 2013, and each year the number of attendees and exhibitors has grown. Employers and educators will be occupying a total of 80 booths in this year’s fair, and the number of attendees is expected to be double that.
These booths at the fair will be inhabited by a wide variety of employers and educators in the greater Wichita community.
“We’ve got your typical ones, like Spirit, Textron, and Bombardier,” Rector said. “Then we have some maybe not as familiar, like Integra, Federal Aviation Administration, and some local police departments and schools for employment. On the education side, we’ve got Kansas State, Wichita State University, Wichita State University Tech, some online schools, and American Military University. So a whole range of educators and employers. Even if you’re not actively looking for a job or further education right now, it’s always good to stay current with what’s happening in the civilian realm.”
The Career and Education Fair hosted by the M&FRC is the perfect place to do so. It will provide attendees with useful information about what careers are out there, or even an entity that one might find useful for themselves, friends or family.
“So don’t think you have to come if you’re only looking for a job,” Rector said. “Just come get information.”
