JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. – Four civic leaders from across the National Capital Region were inducted as honorary commanders during a ceremony held at Joint Base Andrews, Md., Feb. 20, 2025.

The event, hosted by U.S. Air Force Col. Jun S. Oh, 316th Wing and installation commander, formally recognized new and existing members of the Joint Base Andrews Honorary Commanders Program, which fosters relationships between military and community leaders.

The program is designed to strengthen partnerships, increase awareness of the base’s mission, and build lasting ties between the installation and surrounding communities.

Oh delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the value of collaboration between the military and civic sectors.

“Every year, we have the honor of welcoming new community leaders into the Joint Base Andrews family and celebrating those who have come before you,” said Oh. “This program is critical to building relationships between the military base and our communities and increasing partnership across all sectors.”

Through the program, civic leaders are provided opportunities to engage with military counterparts, participate in base events, and gain firsthand knowledge of base operations. Military commanders are also given a platform to share the installation’s mission, capabilities, and challenges with key figures in the region.

Each new honorary commander was introduced and presented with a certificate and pin during the ceremony. The inductees later recited the honorary commanders’ oath, affirming their commitment to supporting JB Andrews and its service members.

The program allows for ongoing engagement throughout the year, with honorary commanders and Andrews Ambassadors having the opportunity to attend official functions, interact with military units, and participate in events highlighting the installation’s role in national defense.

Honorary commanders who actively participate during their term may be selected for the Andrews Ambassadors Program. This program honors individuals who have shown exceptional dedication to Team Andrews, fostering strong relationships with base leaders and continuing their support for service members and their families.

Speaking to the newly inducted honorary commanders, returning members, and ambassadors, Oh expressed gratitude for their dedication to strengthening the bond between JB Andrews and the local community.

"Thank you for your commitment to our military and for the opportunity to show you what we do in the defense of America every day," Oh said. "We are better because of you."
