U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Rachel Hoffman, chaplain assistant, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River, has been named Go-Getter of the Month for January 2025. The MCAS New River Chapel provides religious services and support to Marines, Sailors, and their families.
A native of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Hoffman joined the Marine Corps in 2020 to challenge herself to overcome complacency and strengthen her mental and physical resilience. Initially, she joined the Marine Corps as an air traffic controller, believing this career would provide the mental challenges she sought. However, when she was temporarily reassigned as a chaplain assistant, she embraced the opportunity and started to see the Marine Corps from a new perspective.
Since taking on this role, Hoffman has developed a deep appreciation for her work environment and colleagues, seeing it as a chance for both personal and professional growth.
“Being able to pause and empathize with Marines about the factors that contribute to our daily and operational stress has been a rewarding experience,” Hoffman said.
Hoffman’s biggest accomplishment in the Marine Corps, according to her, has been stepping into her new role, embracing the challenges it presents, and demonstrating resilience in the face of the unknown.
“I strive to live by the ‘no Marine left behind’ concept, but that also extends to their families, retirees, and veterans... our support doesn’t stop at the gate...” she said. “I want to see everyone thrive and make sure they feel supported with all the resources they need.”
Grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow, Hoffman reminds herself and others to live in the moment and embrace change. She encourages those around her to appreciate new experiences and the growth that comes with them.
