Alameda, Calif. - Navy Reserve Center (NRC) Alameda held a change of command ceremony aboard USS Hornet (CV 12), March 8, 2025. In the presence of NRC Alameda staff, community leaders, family, and friends, Cmdr. Trisha Kelly relieved Capt. Kerri Chase as commanding officer of NRC Alameda.
Capt. Domitilo Pastorin Jr., Commander, Navy Reserve Region Readiness and Mobilization Command San Diego (REDCOM SD) praised Chase’s performance and leadership style. “Captain Chase has navigated a myriad of challenges and performed admirably to obtain several wins for the team here.”
According to Pastorin Jr., those wins include facilitation of over 1,200 funeral honor details during Chase’s tenure as well as NRC Alameda being selected as the 2023 large NRC of the year.
“NRC Alameda successfully mobilized over 240 reservists all over the world supporting missions and requirements that maintained our maritime superiority,” continued Pastorin Jr.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Pastorin Jr. presented Chase with a Legion of Merit Medal. Upon receipt of the award, Chase said the volume of NRC Alameda accomplishments during her command are owed both to the selected reservists assigned to the NRC and the staff’s buy in of her leadership philosophy.
"To the selected reserve warfighters in the room, thank you so much for your service. I truly appreciate the honor and privilege to serve with you,” said Chase. “To the staff...I’ll miss you with my whole heart. I’ve cared about your families as much as my own. I’ve cared about your pay as much as my own. Your well- being as much as my own. Your careers and lives as much as my own. Thank you."
Chase noted taking command is an honor, humbling, a momentous responsibility, and the pinnacle of a Navy officer’s career. She concluded her remarks by saying Kelly is unequivocally ready for command.
After official orders were read and Kelly formally took command of NRC Alameda, she articulated her intent.
“As we stand here today, we are facing a dynamic, ever-changing strategic environment. The character of warfare is evolving, and we are confronted with numerous challenges. In the face of these headwinds, each of us has the potential to make a meaningful impact,” said Kelly. “We are and will continue to lead from the front. Together, we will uphold the legacy of excellence that NRC Alameda is known for.”
Kelly closed the ceremony by directing NRC Alameda CMDCM Charles Linville and staff to carry out the plan of the day.
Chase has been selected as the next Commodore of Navy Reserve Readiness and Mobilization Command Region Great Lakes and will take command in April 2025.
The mission of NRC Alameda is to provide strategic depth and deliver operational capabilities to the Navy and Marine Corps team for over 550 Navy Reservists.
