WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD, Hawaii — U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii hosted David H. Dentino, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for installations, housing and partnerships, for a two-day visit Feb. 25-26, 2025. Dentino's visit solely focused on key infrastructure challenges, privatized and barracks housing concerns, military construction and essential partnerships supporting the Army's mission in Hawaii.
Accompanied by Col. Rachel Sullivan, commander of U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii, and Command Sgt. Maj. Derek Wise, Dentino's itinerary included in-depth briefings, site visits and discussions with Army leadership and installation partners to assess ongoing and future projects impacting Soldiers and their families.
“Through the last two days, we have clearly demonstrated to the secretariat the importance of the situation on the ground here in Hawaii for our Soldiers and our Army Families,” said Col. Rachel Sullivan, Commander U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii.
In addition to housing and infrastructure, Dentino's visit highlighted the Army's commitment to partnerships and collaboration. His meetings included discussions on crucial intergovernmental support agreements, which foster cooperation between the Army and local State-City & County agencies to enhance efficiency in areas such as facility management, utilities and emergency services.
One critical stop on the itinerary was a tour of the Red-Hill and Aliamanu Military Reservation, a site of significant environmental and logistical interest. Dentino received updates on water quality projects, and the Army's role in ensuring sustainable clean water management for both the installation and surrounding communities.
Dentino's visit underscored the Army's long-term commitment to sustaining and improving the quality of life for Soldiers and their Families in Hawaii. As the Army balances operational readiness with infrastructure demands, his engagement with U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii leadership will certainly help shape policies and funding priorities in the years ahead.
With more than three decades of experience in military infrastructure and environmental planning, Dentino brings a wealth of expertise to the discussion. His leadership in adjusting or updating Army-wide policies will be instrumental in guiding future improvements at Army installations across Hawaii.
As the Army continues to modernize its installations, the insights gained from this visit will play a crucial role in ensuring U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii remains a premier duty station for Soldiers and their Families.
