OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. – The 55th Logistics Readiness Squadron celebrated the opening of their new campus with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska March 14, 2025.

The flood in 2019 damaged many buildings, most were uninhabitable, which forced them to change their operations. The new campus will provide them with a more centralized location to become more efficient than before.

The campus is two buildings, one for administration and warehouse for equipment, and the other is a petroleum, oil, and lubricant facility.

Construction of the 26,575 square foot, $18.9 million campus began in November 2021. The new campus is part of an ongoing construction project, making it the first of eight campuses to open and become fully functional.

“This 26.5 thousand square foot facility is an investment in readiness as well as the future of the LRS Warhorses and Offutt Air Force Base,” said Col. Mark Howard, 55th Wing commander, during opening remarks. “The team’s perseverance through years of disruption is truly commendable and this campus is a testament to warhorse dedication. Congratulations Warhorses, we’re excited for you … greatly improving the Warhawk’s ability to rapidly mobilize forces and generate combat power.”

According to Deivis Bliujus, 55th LRS logistics manager, the campus will bring squadron leadership, unit deployment managers, command support staff, supply central storage, and traffic management office cargo into one combined location.

“Besides having a modern building to operate in and house some of our critical functions, it allows us the opportunity to bring leadership closer to most of the squadron members,” Bliujus said.

Additionally, LRS’ move into the new facility is expected to help streamline other processes.

“It allows TMO cargo and material management central storage to work closely together, ensuring seamless delivery of items for various units across the base, mainly maintenance,” Bliujus added. “Having these two sections working hand in hand will speed up the processing of parts and getting those items to the flightline reducing delivery times.”

Oviatt provided remarks highlighting LRS and spoke on the challenges the squadron has overcome.

“Today is not just a day to celebrate both the opening of the LRS campus and the POL operating facility – this occasion is for all of Team Offutt,” Oviatt said to the crowd. “This moment is a symbol of our collective resilience – every Airman, civilian, and contractor who no matter the conditions, have shown they can endure and find a way to win. Today’s ceremony marks a new chapter – a chapter where our past challenges inspire our future successes.”
