In an effort to enhance physical readiness and fitness, improvements are being constructed on the existing running trail that runs parallel to Lindsey Boulevard on Clay Kaserne.
The United States Army Garrison Wiesbaden Department of Public Works has already begun upgrades that are scheduled for completion by the end of July, such as adding Sprint-Drag-Carry, training lanes, permanent physical fitness equipment and Beaver Fit Containers. The Beaver Fit Containers are containers that will store additional physical training equipment.
“These enhancements will provide our Garrison units with better opportunities to optimize physical fitness and enhance readiness,” Command Sgt. Maj. Yves Pamphil, USAG Wiesbaden Command Sergeant Major.
Trail Enhancements: Start to Finish
Community members may have already noticed construction on the new improvements, which began the third week in March. During construction the running trail will remain open, although some portions may narrow.
A Two-Mile Run loop run will begin near Building 1039 (Central Issue Facility) and end near Building 1025 (Customs), will be marked clearly by metal posts. These locations will include designated spaces for rest and preparation. Runners will complete the loop one and a half times to achieve two miles.
Four specialized Functional Fitness areas will complement the trail. Two of these will be situated in the grass loops at either end, equipped with outdoor fitness gear such as decline sit-up benches, flat benches, and dip bars, in addition to seating and tables.
A third Functional Fitness area, located behind the Post Office, will house four artificial turf Sprint-Drag-Carry training lanes. Each lane will be three meters (9 feet) wide and 25 meters (82 feet) long, featuring non-rubber infilled turf.
This third area will also include seating and space for two Beaver Fit Containers.
The fourth Functional Fitness area, located behind the Gym, mirrors the equipment of the Post Office PT area but features three Sprint-Drag-Carry lanes instead.
A Step Forward in Fitness and Readiness
The project underscores the Army’s commitment to the principle of “Fitness is Readiness.” The new enhancements, including the SDC lanes and improved trail with additional robust outdoor equipment, will support Soldiers in maximizing their physical potential and achieving operational preparedness.
