    Story by Pfc. Kameron Spencer

    101st Public Affairs Detachment

For Delaware Air National Guard Senior Airman Alexa Monserrat Núñez-Alcocer the weight of her uniform isn’t just the fabric she wears. It’s a reflection of the sacrifices her family made, and dreams they nurtured.

“My family and the military are intertwined, it’s challenging at times, but somehow it all comes together,” Núñez-Alcocer reflected.

That same sense of pride and responsibility drives her to excel not only in uniform, but in the classroom as well. Núñez-Alcocer's ability to balance 18 college credits, while being an active member of Chi Upsilon Sigma, and fulfilling her military duties is no small achievement, yet Núñez-Alcocer views all as part of her larger mission.

Núñez-Alcocer honors her family’s sacrifices by pushing herself to achieve more than they ever imagined, all while staying grounded in the values they instilled in her.

“My family and the military are intertwined, it’s challenging at times, but somehow it all comes together,” Núñez-Alcocer reflected.

One of her most significant experiences came during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. After finishing tech school, Núñez-Alcocer returned to her unit and was activated to the Northern Delaware area. Upon being activated, she quickly found herself in a pivotal role, not just conducting check-ins, but serving as the only Spanish-speaking Airman at a site where most of the patients spoke little to no English.

“I was able to connect with people on a deeper level,” Núñez-Alcocer shared. “I wasn’t just checking them in, I was there to make sure they were understood and cared for.”

In that moment, her duties expanded as she stepped in to bridge the language gap, working closely with medical professionals to guide and support those who needed help the most.

“I was able to connect with people on a deeper level,” Núñez-Alcocer shared. “I wasn’t just checking them in, I was there to make sure they were understood and cared for.”

Her role became a lifeline for countless individuals, proving that even in the midst of crisis, one person’s dedication can make an extreme difference.

As she continues to serve, Núñez-Alcocer eagerly absorbs the knowledge and leadership skills she gains from her time in the military, knowing they will be valuable to her in the future.

With a psychology degree in sight and plans to commission as an officer, she’s driven by the desire to combine her academic expertise and military experience to make an even greater impact both in and out of uniform. For Núñez-Alcocer, her journey is far from over, it’s only just the beginning.

“You are capable of achieving so much more than you realize, if you stay focused and never stop pushing forward,” said Núñez-Alcocer. “. Every failure is just a lesson in disguise. Stand up, keep going, and remember, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if you truly believe in yourself.,” said Núñez-Alcocer.
