FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Military Police (MP) leaders from across the XVIII Airborne Corps came together at Fort Bragg’s Mission Training Complex March 19-21, 2025, to discuss the future of their formations and confront the evolving operational demands.

The 2025 XVIII Airborne Corps Military Police Symposium, themed Advancing XVIII ABN Corps Military Police Formations in Support of Maneuver and Protection, emphasized leadership, technology integration, and innovative solutions to real-world challenges faced by MPs today and into the future.

“The XVIII Airborne Corps MP Symposium was an opportunity to have junior and senior leaders across the MP corps regiment meet and come together and talk about things that are happening across the regiment,” said Maj. Tyler Shimandle, Chief of Operations at Directorate of Emergency Services, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Throughout the event, senior leaders shared insights on how the MP role continues to adapt, underscoring the importance of individual leadership and soldier readiness.

“I’ve been in the Army for 24 years and looking back, it continues to change,” said Col. Charcillea A. Shaefer, Commander of the 16th Military Police Brigade, “but what doesn't change is the American soldier.”

The symposium addressed the nature of technology and its role in future MP operations.

“There are a lot more robotic platforms that are being integrated into the companies like counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems (cUAS) or small UAS,” said Shimandle. He emphasized how these technologies are helping to keep military police soldiers out of harms way.

Leaders participated in working groups to tackle pressing operational issues – ranging from installation law enforcement improvements to maneuver support during large-scale combat operations.

“The good thing about the working groups is that it bridges the perspectives of the officers and the senior noncommissioned officers,” said 1st Sgt. Joshua Delgado, 561st MP Company, 716th MP Battalion, Fort Campbell. “It’s a good development for the noncommissioned officers.”

The moderators of the Symposium expressed the importance of taking the information from the symposium to their formations.

“Ultimately, we’re moving in a new direction because we have to fight a new war,” said Shimandle.
