LOP BURI, Thailand - Members of the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado, conducted a tour of a Stryker base camp for a visiting U.S. congressional staff delegation during Hanuman Guardian 25 (HG25) on March 15, 2025.

One of the primary goals of this tour is to ensure the visiting delegation understands the importance of this exercise between the U.S. Army and the Royal Thai Army.

"We're here executing an exercise known as Hanuman Guardian, which is in its 16th iteration, where we conduct live platoon fires, movement to contact defense simulations, and Stryker training between the U.S. Army and the Royal Thai Army," said U.S. Army Maj. Sam Kuenker, operations officer for the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

"We hosted a staff delegation for our guests to not only explain what Hanuman Guardian is but also some of the importance of what we're doing here," he added.

The staff delegation that arrived on the site for the tour is composed of members of the House of Foreign Affairs Committee that visited as part of their mission across the region.

"The staff delegation is comprised of professional staff members from the House Foreign Affairs Committee and are a bipartisan delegation that is providing oversight for the Department of State and numerous other security cooperation operations within the region," said Lt. Col Kyle E. Frazer, an U.S. Army legislative liaison within the House Army Liaison Division.

"The primary purpose of this trip is to discuss family programming in these countries as the committee goes through the State Department reauthorization process,” Frazer said. “It allows them to educate themselves with ongoing operations and policy implications, provide critical oversight of executive agencies, and allow them to see tactical implications of strategic level operations.”

During HG25, the leadership team planned a tour in order for the congressional staff delegation to properly understand what was happening during the mission.

"While the delegation was here, we walked them through the exercise, told them the goals of the mission, and conducted a combined arms rehearsal with our Royal Thai Army partners," Kuenker said.

The command team also went into detail to the delegation on how the main points of HG25 is to raise awareness of the collaboration between the two armies within our regions and to share our knowledge between each other in order to improve our military forces.

“We're really trying to increase the interoperability within the region and the capabilities of the Royal Thai Army given that we're a partner force,” said Kuenker. “They're a Stryker unit and we are too, so we want to share the lessons learned that we've gained over the past 15 years that we've utilized Strykers to increase their capabilities and knowledge on the systems.”

At the conclusion of the tour, the leadership team conveyed to the staff delegation the training being conducted in Thailand and the role it plays in our joint collaboration between our two countries.

"The delegation was impressed with the level of integration between both the host nation and U.S. forces after the end of our visit," said Frazer. "Being able to see the logistic requirements for these types of operations helps provide key context in their ability to understand how to plan, resource, and execute joint multinational training exercises, along with being able to properly inform Congress on Army programs such as this one."
