U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District Commander Lt. Col. Matthew Miller signed a project partnership agreement (PPA) with Denny Herrera, mayor of the Village of Cuba, in Cuba, N.M., March 24, 2025. The PPA is authorized under Section 595 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1999 (WRDA).
The project is slated happen in two phases. The first phase includes the design for a full water tank replacement and provides for construction of approximately 1,630 feet of new, 8-inch inch distribution waterline, the gate valve, the infiltration basin, connections to the existing distribution system, all associated appurtenances, and site restoration and erosion control.
Once funding for Phase Two is secured, the existing water tank will be demolished, and construction can begin on the new 450,000-gallon water storage tank.
The $2 million project intends to ensure adequate water distribution and storage for the village. Construction is expected to begin in May 2026 and be completed by October 2026. The project will be cost shared 75% federal, 25% Village of Cuba.
