FORT GREGG-ADAMS, Va. — Service members, civilians and children gathered at the Child Development Center to celebrate the Month of the Military Child proclamation signing April 1.

The proclamation, signed by the Garrison Commander Col. Richard Bendelewski and Child and Youth Services Coordinator Tamara Johnson, emphasized the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by military children, who often face frequent relocations, parental deployments, and other challenges tied to the military life.

“This month, we honor the resiliency and strength of our military children,” Bendelewski said. “You may not always see it, but your support you show your parents and family goes farther than you know.”

April is recognized by the Department of Defense as the Month of the Military Child, a time to highlight the importance of supporting military children and to raise awareness about the resources and services available to help them thrive.

“Military kids, you are amazing in every way imaginable,” Johnson said. “I am so proud of each and every one of you.”

The event kicked off a month of activities at Fort Gregg-Adams, including community outreach programs, family support initiatives and educational events designed to provide military children and their families with the tools and recognition they deserve.

The Month of the Military Child is an opportunity for the community to come together in support of these young individuals who face challenges many others may never experience.

“Our military children are a testament to the strength of military families, and today we celebrate them for their unwavering support and commitment,” Bendelewski concluded.
