BEALE AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. - Local media outlets and aviation enthusiasts gathered at Beale Air Force Base for a media day in preparation for the Beale Air & Space Expo 2025. The event provided a behind-the-scenes look at the base’s operations and showcased the technologies and airpower that make Beale AFB a cornerstone of national security.
With the airshow fast approaching in June, the media was given access to operations and Airmen who will help make this year’s event a memorable experience.
The day began with a press conference that featured the Beale Air & Space Expo committee, where journalists were able to ask about the preparations involved in organizing such an event. The committee provided insight into the scope of the airshow, including aircraft demonstrations, public safety measures, and logistical planning.
After the press conference, attendees were escorted to the control tower, where they had a high vantage point of T-38 Talons and the U-2 Dragon Lady in action. Journalists also got an up-close look at the U-2’s pressure suit, courtesy of the 9th Physiological Support Squadron. The chance to learn about the complexities of the U-2 pilot’s unique suit, which is critical for flights at altitudes of 70,000 feet, left many of the attendees in awe.
James “Bo” Reeder, an aviation enthusiast and former Navy aircrew member, reflected on the unique access he had at the media day. “It’s been fun to come out here, just having prior aircrew experience, and seeing the pilots suit up and understanding the physiological aspects of flying. I knew what it was like, but seeing it up close was pretty incredible,” he shared.
The upcoming airshow will give thousands of community members a chance to get a closer look at Beale’s capabilities.
“For a lot of people, we see the planes flying in the community, but we don’t understand what they do or why they’re here,” said Hector Amezcua, a reporter with the Sacramento Bee. “The airshow will give the public a better understanding of Beale’s mission and the amazing technology they’re working with.”
Keith Overby, Nevada County News, shared similar sentiments, highlighting the community benefits of the upcoming airshow.
“It’s going to be a great event for families and kids, and it will have a positive economic impact on the local area,” said Overby. “People will go to local restaurants, maybe even stay in hotels, especially if they’re coming from out of town.”
Overby also highlighted how Beale’s open access to the media was an exciting opportunity to engage with the base’s operations. “Being able to see and talk to different people and learn about the technology being used here is amazing. Not many people get this kind of access,” Overby explained.
For younger aviation enthusiasts like Jonah Rossiter, media day was also an invaluable opportunity to see aircraft up close. “It’s great that Beale is providing opportunities for all generations to get involved and share their message,” said Rossiter.
The media day was an important step in increasing awareness about the Beale Air & Space Expo 2025 and the U.S. Air Force’s mission, providing journalists with unique insights into the valuable contributions made by Airmen and the base’s operations.
As June 7-8 approaches and the airshow draws near, the excitement and anticipation are palpable within the community, as many look forward to experiencing Beale AFB’s operations firsthand and celebrating a legacy of reconnaissance.
