FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — The 3rd Chemical Brigade held a change-of-responsibility ceremony March 28 at Nutter Field House, where Command Sgt. Maj. Kiana Bell relinquished her role as the brigade’s top enlisted leader to Command Sgt. Maj. Ronis Gutierrez.
During the ceremony, Col. Hector Montemayor, 3rd Chemical Bde. commander, who served as the reviewing officer, thanked Bell for her leadership and guidance.
“You have cultivated a culture of family within the brigade. One built on trust, resilience and shared mission. Your free spirit has not only lightened the burdens of stress but also inspired optimism among cadre and leaders,” Montemayor said. “Your steadfast leadership and calm demeanor were a sense of inspiration and comfort. You gave me the reassurance to see challenges not as daunting but as opportunities to grow and improve.”
As Bell reminisced about her time with the 3rd Chemical Brigade, she said it has been an honor.
“I feel grateful to have been your command sergeant major,” Bell said.
She also wished Gutierrez well in his new role.
“I know in my heart that Command Sgt. Maj. Gutierrez and his family will continue to forge America’s sons and daughters into well disciplined, trained and fit Soldiers and leaders,” Bell said.
Bell is headed to Fort Belvoir, Virginia where she will be the senior enlisted advisor for the Operations and Integration Directorate at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
Gutierrez is coming from Romania where he served as U.S. Army Garrison Black Sea command sergeant major.
“Today marks a very special occasion — I have been humbly reassigned to the best chemical brigade in the U.S. Army. This organization is composed of highly trained and competent professionals,” Gutierrez said.
According to Montemayor, Gutierrez brings a wealth of technical expertise, tactical knowledge and fresh perspective.
“I am confident you will lead us forward, drive change, maintain discipline and standards, enhance readiness, build trust and create your own legacy,” Montemayor said.
