SAN DIEGO – Professor Laura Padilla at California Western Law School in Downtown San Diego brought her Land Use Law class to tour U.S. Navy Building 750 and to learn about Navy Real Estate and Land Use, April 1st in San Diego.
The completed Broadway Complex project and the still-in-development Old Town Campus project, land use and development actions by the Navy in downtown San Diego, were of particular interest to the students.
NAVFAC Southwest Associate Counsel Curtis Permito provided an excellent overview of Navy real property law focusing on projects in the Southwest from Fallon to Yuma to Camp Pendleton. Permito is a graduate of Cal Western and was in Padilla’s class in the 90's. Permito was joined by another fellow Cal Western graduate with Navy Region Southwest Counsel Sandra Cain, and NAVFAC Southwest Counsel Susan Hulbert.
A smaller group of students stayed for a tour of the building, which included meeting Navy Region Southwest Commander Rear Admiral Brad Rosen on the 17th floor balcony. Rosen joined the Office of General Counsel attorney hosts in extolling the virtues of a legal career in the Navy, as either a Judge Advocate General or as an Office of General Counsel attorney. The law students asked insightful and engaging questions and expressed enthusiasm and interest in learning about the mission of Navy, NAVFAC Southwest, and Navy Region Southwest.
