Camp Lejeune, N.C. - In the current and future battles we train for, it is in every Marine’s mindset to defeat the challenges and obstacles at hand. The U.S. Marine Corps implements training designed to enhance the Marines' readiness and effectiveness in combat situations.
The 2d Marine Division Super Squad Competition is an all-encompassing training event that tests squads' operational proficiency in a realistic training environment while challenging their physical and mental resilience.
The competition included situations and challenges familiar to every Marine infantry squad, such as obstacle courses, squad attacks, live fire ranges, hikes, and practical application stations.
The Marines and Sailors with 3d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment, 2d MARDIV, showcased their ability to strategize and work efficiently as a team by winning against two opposing teams in the competition. By applying their physical and mental strength, they proved to be the most proficient and lethal squad.
“Everyone always looks at the squad leader as being the reason for winning, which I wholeheartedly disagree with,” said Sgt. Christian A. Palmer, the winning squad leader with 3d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment, 2d MARDIV. “The Marine Corps Rifle Squad isn't what it is without the competency of the Marines that comprise the squad; they all went out and did what they signed up for and then some.”
U.S. Marine Corps infantry rifle squads from across all four divisions are slated to compete against each other in the U.S. Marine Corps Annual Rifle Squad Competition hosted by Training Command on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, to determine who is deserving of the title of ‘Most Proficient Rifle Squad in the Marine Corps.’
The drive to win, shared by all Marines, is showcased every day through the variety of intense training exercises to countless competitions. Whether in training or in battle, Marines strive to overcome in every environment.
“For me, it's a confirmation of the Marines that I’ve trained, a confirmation of their ability to execute,” said Palmer. “If we were to be activated in less than 24 hours, we would be capable of conducting whatever mission needed.”
