Story by Staff Sgt. Nicholas Ross

    8th Fighter Wing

KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea – U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jacob Spillman, 8th Operational Support Squadron air traffic control standards and evaluations NCO in charge and landing zone operations NCO in charge, was selected as the Wolf Pack’s Pride of the Pack for the week of April 7-11.

Spillman broadened Kunsan’s operational capabilities by instituting the 8th Fighter Wing’s first landing zone operations section and training program, expanding aircraft operations to non-standard locations across the installation. His team was selected to research critical data related to the PACAF ACE Fighter Working Group’s effort to develop landing zone criteria for fighter aircraft.

They worked with local flying units to execute multiple tests of contingency lighting, crafting the first base landing zone regulations./ They collaborated with base/MAJCOM leadership to deconflict landing zone operations from wing, Republic of Korea Air Force, and civilian aircraft.
Finally, Spillman initiated training events with the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army, 51st FW, and 8th FW units to lead his team of four trainers to certify 18 pilots and grant 23 Airmen from across the 7th Air Force the 3LZ special experience identifier and increase overall USFK and USFJ readiness.

Thank you for everything you’ve done to improve the Wolf Pack’s ability to accept follow-on forces and project airpower.
