Chief Master Sgt. Joshua Francois assumed this responsibility, stepping into the role during a period of transition for the Air Force Reserve’s only space-focused wing.
“We have the world’s most respected Air and Space Forces in the world,” said Col. Adam Fisher, the 310th Space Wing commander, who presided over the ceremony. “Not because of our space craft, not because of our airpower, but because of the strength of our NCO corps.”
Fisher said this strength was reflected in the exceptional pool of applicants for the position--each bringing experience and exemplary records of leadership.
“Everybody was number one of this and that. They’d all done the things,” he said. “But I chose Chief Francois because he limps. Not because of injuries—but because he’s taken shots. He’s taken punches. He’s taken kicks for all of you—for all of his Airmen.”
The ceremony comes as the wing is navigating changes tied to the Space Force Personnel Management Act. The legislation merges full- and part-time space professionals into a single service model under the U.S. Space Force, eliminating the traditional split between active and Reserve components.
In 2024, more than 200 of the wing’s Airmen were selected for active-duty transfer to the U.S. Space Force—more than any other Reserve unit. The wing remains a critical link between legacy structure and emerging operational models, which Francois spoke to.
“I step into this role as likely the last command chief of the 310th Space Wing,” he said. “While the future of the wing may be uncertain, I accept this responsibility with a firm commitment to lead with integrity, empathy, and a focus on collective progress. My foremost priority is you—the dedicated individuals who make up the heart of this organization,” Francois said. “Together, we will build an environment of opportunity where we can all be successful.”
