Five Honorary Commanders and three Andrews Ambassadors took part in the visit, where they received a mission briefing, explored the virtual reality training simulator and toured a C-40 and C-37 aircraft, as well as the Silver Bullet and Steel Eagle command modules.
The Honorary Commander Program partners local community leaders with base leadership to strengthen ties and build mutual understanding Andrews’ mission. Honorary Commanders typically serve for two to four years, before transitioning to the emeritus program, Andrews Ambassadors, where they can continue their advocacy and support.
For Washington Nationals Human Resources Vice President Jason Beckwith, it was his first visit to the base since being inducted in February as an Honorary Commander for the 317th Recruiting Squadron.
“You see outside the base, but as you come a little bit deeper, you see all the aircraft and the impressive servicemen and women,” Beckwith said. “I didn’t think about the logistics support behind the aircraft and how many people it actually takes to serve our distinguished visitors and their guests.”
Andrews Medical Support Squadron Honorary Commander Evalyne Bryant-Ward, vice president of ambulatory services for the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, shared her amazement by the dedication of Airmen and her new insights into the mission of “America’s Airfield” with each visit.
“Every time I have the opportunity to come out, I learn something new, and I am even more proud of the young men and women that decide to serve our country,” Bryant-Ward said.
Immersion events like this provide civic leaders with a firsthand insight into the base’s mission and day-to-day operations to project airpower and enable global diplomacy. These engagements strengthen trust, enhance transparency and reinforce the partnership between the base and the community it serves.
