PHILADELPHIA – As Defense Contract Management Agency employees return to in-person work, a recently renovated workplace welcomed Philadelphia employees. The refurbished office hosts DCMA Mid-Atlantic’s Philadelphia office and Naval Special Emphasis Operations commands.

“This project, which was initiated prior to current policy priorities and COVID-related worksite policies, repaired the completely deteriorated 33,000-square-foot space in a 1943 building by replacing and upgrading all interior doors and partitions, all finishes, casework and furniture, service utility infrastructure, including (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), plumbing, power, lighting, telecom, security, fire protection and alarm, audio visual and other equipment,” said Tina DeBella, DCMA facilities specialist project engineer.

The top-to-bottom upgrades improved the workplace environment and created workstation efficiency.

“The renovation reconfigured and modernized private and open workspaces to maximize space utilization and create numerous shared support and collaboration spaces,” DeBella said. “The building roof was also replaced and all restrooms were repaired and upgraded.”

In total, the space accommodates more than 200 staff.

“The multiple conference rooms have integrated audio-visual systems featuring LED backlit LCD displays, as does the training lab with phenolic resin worksurfaces.”

The reconfiguration improves circulation and visibility throughout the space, and features inviting modern and unique furniture throughout, including low cubicle walls which allow sunlight and airflow to create fresh bright open office areas, collaboration rooms featuring mobile nesting tables and chairs or multi-level lounge seating, and hoteling areas with high tech digital lockers and battery-powered mobile stations.

“Funding this comprehensive repair allows DCMA to have a long-term, high-quality workspace on a secure, economical Naval base that is central to the mid-Atlantic region that’s accessible via major transportation corridors, allowing DCMA to execute their mission efficiently and effectively,” DeBella said. “Also, the reconfiguration of this large office, accommodating 30% more seating and multiple commands, supports compliance with new return to office mandates.”
