1/5/2006 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- The secretary of the Air Force said he is proud and inspired by the Airmen he visited during his trip to Southwest Asia.
"I met fabulous Airmen at each base," Secretary Michael W. Wynne said.
"They were very dedicated and persistent in their desire to further the Air Force mission."
Secretary Wynne said Jan. 4 that he talked to as many Airmen as possible during his December visit. The feedback enthused him.
He said it was enjoyable listening to the Airmen explain and show how they bring technology to the fight and the pride they exhibited in doing so -- from the 18-year-olds right out of high school to the senior leaders.
He liked the examples of the flexibility and adaptability Airmen have shown as the service continues to be fully engaged in ongoing combat operations.
"This was inspirational to me," he said. "I was very impressed with an (Airman 1st Class) running the trackball for the (MQ-1) Predator and doing it as if she had been for 15 years."
The Airmen make the difference in the success of the Air Force mission, he said.
"We bring the best equipment we can muster through a wonderful industry partnership, but without the bravery, persistence and indebtedness of the Airmen manning it, it wouldn't be worth very much," Secretary Wynne said. "(The trip) made me very proud to be called the secretary of our Air Force."
