STATEN ISLAND, New York. – Ensign Jason Miller, a native of Norfolk, Va., assigned to USS James E. Williams is currently attending the 23rd Fleet Week hosted by the city of New York.
Miller, the son of Cmdr. Jimmie and Lt. j.g. Chaplain Melanie Miller, who reside in Marina del Rey, Calif., is assigned as the ship's Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer.
Miller attended Colonial Forge High School and is a graduate of the University of Missouri.
"It's a good opportunity for the civilians to interact with the people who serve them," said Miller.
More than 3,000 members of the Maritime Services are participating in the yearly event hosted by the city. The event includes military demonstrations, sporting events, ship tours, Staten Island Music Festival, parades and a chance to meet the men and women of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
