KING KHALID MILITARY CITY, Saudi Arabia -- More than 150 students from the Royal Saudi Land Forces Explosive Ordnance Device School attended a three-day EOD seminar with Third Army here, May 23-25.
"The intent of this seminar was to share lessons learned and information on current and emerging technology and trends within the EOD field," said Lt. Col. Frank G. Davis, Third Army/U.S. Army Central EOD Officer.
The exchange opened with a presentation by Col. Mohammed, executive officer, RSLF Engineering School, which stressed the importance of these types of theater security cooperation events. Mohammed is the only member of RSLF EOD to graduate from the U.S. Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal Course at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The goal for the future is to get more soldiers into this program in addition to building RSLF's own program using Third Army's recommendations, he said.
In his opening comments, Mohammed explained that "Improvised Explosive Devices have no borders," which is one of the reasons countries participate in these seminars.
The three-day event included a tour of the RSLF Engineering School and discussions on EOD specific equipment, including a demonstration of an EOD robot in action.
Davis explained that EOD information exchanges and seminars increase interoperability between the 20 countries in Third Army's area of responsibility. This exchange has built a great foundation to expand the relationship between Third Army's EOD team and the RSLF EOD team.
"This event is important because it shows USARCENT's commitment to strengthening our relationship with the KSA as a key supporting partner," Davis said. "EOD exchanges like this give us the opportunity to work with such a large number of EOD Soldiers at one time and witness the immediate feedback and importance given to the subject matter by all parties involved."
