    380th Air Expeditionary Wing

SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Tech. Sgt. Mark Trevino, a cyber transport craftsman, completed an expeditionary deployment to a non-disclosed base here in May 2010.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Trevino was deployed with the 380th Expeditionary Communications Squadron. In working with the squadron's client support team, Sergeant Trevino supported communications operations for a deployed wing -- the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing - of more than 1,900 personnel.

As a cyber transport craftsman, Trevino is trained to deploy, sustain, troubleshoot and repair standard voice, data and video network infrastructure systems, internet protocol detection systems and cryptographic equipment, his official Air Force job description states.

Communications Airmen like Trevino also perform, coordinate, integrate and supervise network design, configuration, operation, defense, restoration and improvements. Cyber transport Airmen also analyze capabilities and performance, identify problems and take corrective action. They fabricate, terminate and interconnect wiring and associated network infrastructure devices. In short, the job description shows them as "computer network hardware and communication equipment specialists."

In doing specific duties in cyber transport, Trevino provides mission critical voice, data and video services. He installs, upgrades, replaces, configures and maintains systems, circuits, IP-based intrusion detection systems that access military, Federal, and commercial networks. He also manages infrastructure devices and systems using the latest approved software tools.

In supporting the 380th ECS, Trevino operated expeditionary communications systems. In doing this, he used agile logistics support channels to sustain continuous network operations. He is trained to remove, repair and replace assemblies and subassemblies to optimally sustain voice, data and video networks. He also establishes priorities, maintains, tests, troubleshoots and repairs network systems equipment and circuits utilizing tools and test equipment. He isolates malfunctions using diagnostic software, technical data, block diagrams, voltage and waveform measurements and other tests requiring specialized test equipment.

Trevino was deployed from the Air Force Personnel Center's Directorate of Personnel Data Systems in San Antonio, Texas.

The 380th ECS is a sub-unit of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing. The wing is home to the KC-10 Extender, U-2 Dragon Lady, E-3 Sentry and RQ-4 Global Hawk aircraft. The wing is comprised of four groups and 12 squadrons and the wing's deployed mission includes air refueling, air battle management, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance in support of overseas contingency operations in Southwest Asia. The 380th AEW supports operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom and the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
