3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq-- Company A, 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, held a change of command ceremony at Memorial Hall June 3.

Maj. Carol Hickey, the outgoing commanding officer of Company A, 3rd BSTB, and Cherokee, Okla., native, was replaced by Capt. Erik Lampe, a Burlington, Iowa, native. Lampe was previously the military intelligence officer-in-charge of 3rd BSTB.

“This is the best job an officer could have,” said Lampe. “I can spend time with Soldiers and accomplish the mission the Army has given me. I am very thankful for that.

Lt. Col. William Edwards, 3rd BSTB commander, gave his farewell to Hickey and welcomed Lampe as the new commander. Maj. John Lim, Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, brigade chaplain, delivered the invocation for the ceremony.

“I’ve had the best group of Soldiers that I could ever ask for,” said Hickey. “The
dedicated non-commissioned officers take care of their Soldiers in every single way. I am very sad to go, but I know they are in very capable hands.”

Hickey will be the officer-in-charge of 3rd BCT’s military intelligence group in Basra, Iraq. She has spent the last year as the commander of Company A.

“Capt. Lampe comes to us with a great reputation, solid leadership skills, and the backing of his former battalion commander,” said Edwards. “I have true faith and confidence in his ability to accomplish the mission and step in where Maj. Hickey stepped out. I expect him to continue operating in the environment, here, with no problem.”
