CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – I Marine Headquarters Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force threw a hail and farewell social for the Rangers of 1st Company, Bahraini Special Security Force, and presented nine Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals to Rangers at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, June 6.
During their tour, from December 2009 to June 2010, the Rangers performed security checks, searched vehicles coming onto base and stood post at the gates and towers. While doing so, nine of them stood out above the rest.
While on post, the Rangers successfully found banned cell phones and hashish. They also distinguished Taliban members by their tattoos.
“This deployment of the company is a historic event for both the kingdom of Bahrain and the United States,” said Col. Lori E. Reynolds, commanding officer of I MHG, I MEF.
Munther, commanding officer of 2nd Company, Bahraini Special Security Force said nine received the medals but they all had a very successful deployment.
Munther’s company is replacing 1st Company on Camp Leatherneck.
“When I started to prepare for this mission, I had over 130 men and I chose the best to [deploy] with me. I believe in them,” said Munther.
Second Company wishes to achieve and contribute more than the unit before them.
