FORT DIX, N.J. -- Fun, food and fellowship were on the menu when Soldiers and civilians assigned to Army Support Activity-Dix gathered together at John Mann Park for a picnic, June 23.

A potluck style picnic featured many home favorites including bean salad, seafood salad, potato salad, burgers and hotdogs. Watermelon was in abundance along with cookies and cakes.

As the temperatures soared well into the 90s, ASA-Dix Commander, Col. Patrick Slowey found a little relief in the dunk tank. People from the ASA community lined up to get a chance to send the commander and other leaders splashing into the tank.

“I’ve only been with the battalion three days. What a welcome. They put this together quite well. I’m going to try to taste a little of everything. The food is delicious,” Pittman, N.J., resident, Staff Sgt. Michael Carter, who was recently assigned as the supply non-commissioned officer with Alpha Company, Mobilization Readiness Battalion, said,

Brianne Cox, who lives in Browns Mills, is a summer-hire office clerk assigned to the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center who helped set up the event. She was taken by the success of the picnic.

“The music is great and I’m enjoying myself. Everyone seems to be having a good time, having a lot of fun, especially the kids in the bounce house. It’s good to see everyone relaxing and enjoying themselves,” Cox said.

Slowey was pleased to so many people participate in the picnic festivities.

“These are really good people. They work hard and have been through a lot, yet they continue to get the mission accomplished every day. I wanted to give them the opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves together. They did a great job pulling this off and they took advantage of this time. I’m proud of them all,” Slowey said.
