The Marines of Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force provided orientation of Marine Corps equipment to the candidates of JASDF.
Bringing these candidates out here allows the candidates to see the capabilities of the Marine Corps, said Master Gunnery Sgt. Dane Olson, operations chief for CAB.
The candidates arrived and formed up for a greeting by Lt. Col. Daniel L. Yaroslaski, commanding officer of CAB.
After receiving the salutation, the candidates were divided into three groups to become familiar with the Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer, mine detection and Marine Corps vehicle assets. CAB also provided a static display to showcase Amphibious Assault Vehicles, Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and other vehicles and equipment to the candidates.
CAB conducted a trial run of the JOEP training a week prior and has conducted events of this nature in the past.
"I loved interacting with these candidates," said Cpl. Kenneth M. Roessner, marksmanship training unit chief for CAB.
When you have the chance to work with other nations' military personnel you have to leave a good impression, said Roessner. That lasting impression will build camaraderie between the two nations and their militaries.
CAB possesses many different types of equipment essential in a joint force operation with the Japanese forces, said Olson. Familiarization with our equipment creates a mutual understanding of operating procedures and allows joint operations to proceed smoothly.
