KABUL- The murder of the Qal'ah-ye Zal District Governor Mohammad Malem Nazir claimed the life of a dedicated public servant. He was killed when an improvised explosive device destroyed his car yesterday.

"Gov. Mohammad Nazir was a positive influence on behalf of the population in his district. The insurgents' cannot offer a better alternative to peace and security for the people of Afghanistan. Their actions will only increase the suffering of those who seek to improve the future for Afghanistan," said IJC spokeswoman Navy Capt. Jane Campbell.

"We offer our sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of Gov. Nazir and to the people of Qal'ah-ye Zal. We will continue to stand by our partners in the Afghan government and security forces to bring security, governance and development to the region," said Campbell.

Afghan authorities are working to determine the perpetrator of this attack, and ISAF is ready to assist in any way possible.
