KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security Forces with International Security and Assistance Force partners completed operations across Afghanistan to detain insurgents, disrupt improvised explosive device manufacture and hinder narcotics and lethal aid trafficking in southern Afghanistan.
On Saturday night, July 10, ANSF and ISAF forces conducted an operation in Kabul City to detain Jahan Zaib, an individual suspected of belonging to a kidnapping group active in Kabul. Zaib was detained and taken into custody by Afghan authorities.
Earlier on Saturday an ANSF and ISAF force disrupted an improvised explosive device manufacturer after a compound search in Maidan Shah district, Wardak province, resulting in the seizure of 200 kilograms of ammonium nitrate and hand grenades. Another search in Deh-e Sabz district, Kabul province, resulted in the seizure of 15 107mm rockets.
Assessments indicate the rockets were to be used for attacks against Kabul. The seized ammonium nitrate, rockets and grenades will be destroyed by ANSF and ISAF troops.
On Saturday morning, July 10, an ANSF and ISAF combined force stopped a suspect vehicle in Panjwa'i district, Kandahar province. Afghan authorities arrested the three occupants of the vehicle who are suspected to be members of a narcotics and lethal aid smuggling network.
On Friday afternoon an ANSF and ISAF combined force stopped a suspect vehicle in Nawah-ye Barakzai district, Helmand province. Several occupants of the vehicle posed an immediate threat to ANSF and ISAF troops and were engaged. A second vehicle associated with the first and containing three males, was subsequently stopped. The occupants, suspected to be members of a narcotics and lethal aid smuggling network, were taken into custody by Afghan authorities.
On Thursday night an ANSF and ISAF combined force conducted a lethal strike in Nahr-e-Saraj district, Helmand province, against an insurgent responsible for the manufacture of suicide vests, harbouring suicide bombers and employing improvised explosive devices to kill and injure Afghan civilians, ANSF and ISAF troops.
No civilians were injured in these operations.
