One hundred seventeen Afghan National Police officers graduated from training at Camp Leatherneck in Helmand Province July 14.
The officers completed an eight-week police skills training course at the Joint Security Academy Southwest.The course consisted of six weeks of Ministry of Interior mandated training and two weeks of "core plus" training, which includes enhanced shooting, patrolling and combat skills.
The graduation marks the sixth class of ANP officers to graduate from JSAS, totaling more than 487 police officers, who now provide security in Helmand province and the surrounding area.
Afghan Brig. Gen. Hakim Angar, Helmand Provincial Chief of Police, and Maj. Gen. Richard Mills, commander, Regional Command Southwest presented graduation certificates.
Currently, there are 118 students training at JSAS. The next graduation ceremony is scheduled for Aug 10 and includes a class of Afghan National Army soldiers. The next ANP graduation is set for September.
The JSAS, a training facility on Camp Leatherneck, provides ANA and ANP formal education in skills to help improve security for southwest Afghanistan.
