FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Maj. Gen. James E. Rogers said goodbye to his soldiers after two years with the 1st Theater Sustainment Command as he relinquished command to Maj. Gen. Kenneth S. Dowd.
Lt. Gen. William G. Webster, Third Army commanding general, hosted the change of command ceremony Thursday at the 1st TSC Headquarters.
After passing the command’s colors to Dowd, Webster noted Rogers’ pride and accomplishment while in the 1st TSC.
“You have carried on a mission and led this command in its capabilities in fine fashion and our nation thanks you,” said Webster. “We owe you a debt of gratitude. Jim and the 1st Team have been fortunate enough to be supported by his wife Reba and family. We owe them a debt of gratitude as well.”
Webster said it was his pleasure to welcome Dowd and his wife Jennie to the 1st TSC.
He went on further to say that the 1st TSC under Dowd will continue to meet the challenges head on and will excel and accomplish the mission while taking care of soldiers, civilians, and families under their charge.
“I have every confidence in their leadership,” said Webster.
Rogers expressed his gratitude to all who participated in the change of command ceremony, welcomed Dowd to the 1st TSC and thanked his wife and family for their support.
“I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by a great team that’s been successful in finding solutions to complex problems,” said Rogers. “I thank all of you for your hard work and dedication and know you’ll give Gen. Dowd the same level of excellence that I’ve come to expect from you.”
Rogers will serve next as the commander of the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command at Red Stone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala.
Dowd remarked on his friend Rogers’ many accomplishments.
“Jim, thank you for your steadfast and selfless leadership at the helm of the 1st TSC over the past two years,” said Dowd. “You and your family have sacrificed greatly, and I know that all here join me in congratulations on your upcoming assignment as commander of AMCOM.”
Dowd comes to the 1st TSC after serving as the director of logistics at Central Command headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
Units that participated in the change of command ceremony included: 1st Special Troops Battalion, 135th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Task Force Sinai, 1st Sustainment Brigade, 83rd Infantry Brigade Combat, 208th Army Band and Alpha Battery 1-139th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment.
