BAGHDAD – The Army and Air Force Exchange Service on Victory Base Complex in Iraq celebrated the organization’s 115 years of service to the armed forces, July 25.
AAFES has continuously served America’s military members since July 25, 1895.
Anniversary organizers at the South Victory Post/Base Exchange said AAFES has proudly served military members for more than 100 years, truly representing their motto: “We go where you go.”
“This is very exciting,” said Sandra Wesley, the store manager of the South Victory Post/ Base Exchange. “Working with AAFES for the past 21 years has been an honor.”
The ceremony began with Lt. Gen. Kenneth Hunzeker, the United States Forces–Iraq deputy commanding general of sustainment, delivering a speech and ended with the tradition of having the youngest employee of the South Victory PX/BX cutting an anniversary cake.
“It’s a great opportunity to be here to say thank you—thank you for all you do,” said Hunzeker. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate what you contribute to our Soldiers.”
