BAGHDAD, Iraq " Soldiers from the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, welcomed five celebrity guests to Forward Operating Base Prosperity Monday.
Retired professional National Football League players and former Pro Bowl selections Keith Byars, Bryan Cox, Nick Lowery, Christian Okoye and former NFL Cheerleader and host of ESPN2's "SpeedWorld," Bonnie-Jill Laflin, greeted and signed autographs for dozens of Cobra Soldiers.
"It's great to come out here and visit with the troops," said Lowery, the former place kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs. "These men and women show the same heart and commitment to this mission as many football players do before a big game in the NFL."
Byars, a Pro Bowl selection in 1993, was an all-purpose running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and New York Jets from 1986 to 1998.
Cox was a middle linebacker for the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, New York Jets and New England Patriots. He was a major defensive force becoming one of the most feared linebackers in the league and was selected for the Pro Bowl in 1992, 1994 and 1995.
Lowry was a place kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, breaking virtually every team record during his 17-year career. He was the only kicker nominated this year for the NFL Hall of Fame.
Okoye spent six years on the Kansas City Chiefs, where he rushed for 4,897 yards and 40 touchdowns. He was selected for the Pro Bowl twice during his career.
Laflin currently hosts ESPN2's "SpeedWorld," co-hosts NBC's "Deal or No Deal," and is a cast member of Spike TV's "Hotlines."
The visit was part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation "Super Sunday Tour" and was presented by Pro Sports MVP.
